About this plan
The Psalms are the Bible’s prayer book: 150 poems and songs written over many centuries, some of them praise and many of them honest complaint. This plan reads all of them in a month, five psalms a day, so you move through the whole range instead of stopping at the favourites.
Day 5 includes Psalm 23, the psalm of the shepherd. Day 11 reads Psalm 51, the great prayer of repentance, and days 24 to 27 take you through the Songs of Ascents, the psalms pilgrims sang on the way up to Jerusalem. The month ends with the five psalms of praise that close the book.
Read a day’s psalms slowly, or aloud, and notice how often a psalm begins in distress and ends in trust. Jesus prayed the Psalms himself, including from the cross, which is one reason Christians have never stopped reading them.
