About this plan
The Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5 to 7, is the best-known collection of Jesus’ teaching, and many Christians read it as a portrait of life in his kingdom. This plan reads it in seven passages, one a day, so each part has room to be heard.
You begin with the Beatitudes on day 1 and the call to be salt and light on day 2. Day 3 is Jesus on anger, desire and faithfulness in marriage, and day 4 takes up promises, revenge and love for enemies. Day 5 covers giving, prayer, including the Lord’s Prayer, and fasting, and day 6 is treasure and worry. Day 7 closes with judging others, asking and seeking, and the two builders.
Luke records some of the same teaching in the shorter Sermon on the Plain, in Luke 6. This is a week for anyone who wants to read one thing well.
