About this plan
The Bible returns again and again to the words “do not be afraid.” This plan reads seven days with people who had good reason to be: a nation trapped at the sea, an army facing a battle it could not win, a shepherd boy facing a giant, and men facing a furnace and a pit of lions.
Days 1 and 2 begin with courage, in God’s word to Joshua and to Israel in Isaiah 41, then Psalms 27, 56 and 91, written by people who were afraid and said so. Day 3 is the crossing of the Red Sea, King Jehoshaphat’s prayer before a battle he could not win, and Psalm 46. Day 4 shows the other side, Israel’s fear at the border of the promised land in Numbers 13–14. Then come David and Goliath, Daniel 3 and 6, and the closing words of Isaiah 43 and 2 Timothy 1.
In these stories fear is never mocked. It is met with the presence of God.
